Landscapes
Vibrant Cityscapes
I create hyper saturated urban landscapes that reflect the vibrancy that I see in my hometown of San Diego, California so that locals can celebrate their city and so that visitors can take a piece home with them.
These colorful urban landscapes capture not just the features of place, but also the spirit of it. These are painted square to reference polariod photos; snapshots in time. I choose to paint areas slated to undergo change, so that my paintings celebrate what those places look like in that exact moment. I write the address of the photo reference on the back of each piece for posterity.
Plein Air Paintings
I setup my easel and paint outdoors. These oil paintings are made in single sessions and seek to playfully capture color impressions and moments in time.
My plein air paintings feature Balboa Park, in San Diego CA. As a born and raised San Diegan, I find myself most attracted to views in the park that you don’t see on a postcard. These are scenes not oft captured, and I think that makes them even more special.
Naturalism
These are paintings that have a more natural color palate, and that explore landscape as it is.
It is not often that I choose to paint in a more natural color palate, but when I do it is because the scene demands it. These paintings have asked to be painted in their natural state, which brings me the challenge of trying to capture them as they are. I find it incredibly gratifying to accomplish this, and I hope you enjoy them!
